In 2007 Marty Paris elicited a collective double-take by doing the unthinkable – shelving his guitar rig for an acoustic guitar and a microphone. With his new solo album Alive, Marty steps back from the roles for which some know him best (imaginative guitar work, producing) and steps into the role that he's been waiting for. Singer- songwriter. Although Marty wrote or co-wrote the majority of the songs on his previous albums, he had focused most of his musical energy on guitars rather than vocals. All of that changes with Alive. He is the main writer and singer of the new material.

From what it is that keeps a road-weary musician going in the album's title track, Alive, to the suffocating pain of unrequited love in one of Marty's signature ballads, Unspoken, Marty writes and sings about the familiar in a way that is evocative and inspiring.

Just because he grabbed the microphone doesn't mean he's completely forsaken the guitar. Marty still plays rhythm guitars on most tracks as well as bass and lead guitar on others. Marty is working with some well known guitarists to bring a new edge to his solo set.

Since leaving New York for the slower pace of the Smoky Mountain foothills, Marty is also working with some of the finest local musicians to bring new life to his music. That means you might hear a steel guitar, a mandolin, or even a banjo here and there.

“I'm looking for better ways to present my music. I've been stuck in old school rock for a long time. I'm even dabbling in country.”

Marty is currently working on a new studio album with the band Permanent Reverse. The album will be released later this year.

The band includes Corky McClellan, Greg Cerenzia, and Mike Arrington. Front-man Maxx Mann from The Trans Siberian Orchestra brings new life to the stage - up front and center - so don't expect the same old type of music from Permanent Reverse.

“This new music is very different from what our fans have heard from us in the past. We are pushing the boundaries between pop, rock and soul. Maxx brings a whole new dimension to my writing style and I believe that Greg will join the ranks of the guitar elite. Not to mention Corky from the band Baton Rouge with Mike churning the bottom end. These guys rock!”
